Natalie:

What was the moment when you knew you wanted to create digital art?

Val:

I think it was when I was seeing people create digital artwork and wanting to do the same thing as they are doing. Their graphics were so dope and fascinating I wanted to achieve that as well.

What inspired you to do digital art?

For me it is more accessible and can achieve unlimited effects, I feel like there is always something to explore and study.

What digital devices do you use to do your art?

I do both analog and digital. I do a lot of stuff with my laptop, my wacom, ipad, and camera.

What effects do you have when you create art?

I have a strong belief in typography, my favorite combo is huge texts and random images.

How has changing universities helped you artistically?

Definitely think of a different environment because when I was in Hong Kong there were locals and europeans teachers. The teachers were not teaching to self-express.

Has growing up in China does inspiration from the city thrive in your art?

Yes, I would still like to discuss and reflect the people’s lives in the city through my artwork.

Do you think your art influences people?

It at least influences me. The bonus part is that I can hear feedback it boosts my work and I get to know what people think.

If you could pick one art medium what would it be? And why?

Architecture, I always regard architecture as the ultimate goal of a designer no matter what disciplinary this designer is expertising in.
